Castle Planner
A downloadable game for Windows
Design a castle for the mad king Ludwig! Try to amass a high score. Based on the popular board game "Castles of Mad King Ludwig" by Bezier Games.
This game was made for the GMTK 2024 Game Jam using LOVE by timidger.

How to Play: You are designing a castle for the mad king Ludwig. Use the mouse to drag rooms from the left side of the screen onto the room plan. Right click to rotate the room you are dragging. Doors must match up and rooms cannot intersect. Try to gain the highest score with the fewest rooms placed! Be careful where you place rooms, once you do you can't take it back and you can quickly run out of room.
What is present in the game:
- A drag and drop system that takes into account valid and invalid room connections and has working rotation.
- Click and drag to move around the grid.
- Zoom in and out with the mouse wheel.
- Every room layout from the original board game is included (except outdoor and downstair rooms).
I unfortunately didn't have time to complete this as I only had two days rather than the full four to work on it. Things missing from this release:
- An end game screen (it goes forever, until it crashes when it runs out of pieces).
- A main menu.
- A tutorial.
- Music.
- Sound effects.
- Scoring rooms based on adjacency bonuses.
- Displaying adjacency bonuses.
- A UI that wasn't ugly as sin and functional on a computer other than mine.
- A button to recenter the grid view.
If I had more than 16 hours to work on this (5 of which went into encoding all of the floor plans from the board game) I probably would have gotten to the rest of this. Unfortunately I had work + a kickball tournament on the Saturday. I also didn't work on it at all on Monday due to back pain after work, except to upload it to this page.
Maybe I'll come back to this after the jam! If you're at all interested in this I suggest you check out the actual board game.
